BIO

I am a Toronto-based Sarode artist and performer, and one of the leading direct torchbearers of the Maihar Seniya Gharana—a distinguished lineage of North Indian classical music whose Seniya roots extend back to the 16th century.

My musical journey spans more than four decades of training through the Guru-Shishya Parampara. My guru, Ustad Aashish Khan, has had the deepest influence on my artistic identity. I also received years of guidance from Guru Professor Dhyanesh Khan and Guru Vidushee Ameena Perera, along with occasional guidance from the legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Sahib.

Over more than two decades as a professional musician, I have presented hundreds of concerts across India, Canada, the United States, Russia, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and beyond, performing at respected venues and festivals and collaborating live with some of the finest musicians from the North Indian classical tradition.

My work moves between tradition and exploration. Alongside classical Sarode performance, I have collaborated on numerous occasions with artists from diverse global traditions, including electronic music. I am especially drawn to projects that create meaningful dialogue across cultures without losing the integrity, discipline, and emotional depth of Raag music.

From 2012 to 2023, I served at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, where I developed and taught a comprehensive curriculum in North Indian classical music. I was also a founding member and mentor at the Aashish Khan School of World Music.

For me, the Sarode is a voice of memory, meditation, emotional truth, and human connection. Through my performances and teaching, I actively seek to connect people.

Teaching Philosophy

Raga as an Architectural Discipline of Resonance and Time

We explore the raga not merely as a scalar framework, but as a living, breathing structure. This approach cultivates a profound understanding of acoustic intent and breath discipline.
