TEACHING ROOM

For more than two decades, my work as a music educator has grown across countries, cultures, instruments, and learning environments. Now based in Toronto, I continue this work through regular private in-person teaching, an online classroom that welcomes students worldwide, and collaborations with universities, conservatories, arts foundations, and community organizations both in Toronto and internationally.

My teaching is rooted in over four decades of learning through the Guru-Shishya Parampara. I begin by understanding each student’s musical background, cultural context, chosen instrument, and individual pace. From there, I create a structured yet flexible learning path that brings together technique, theory, compositions, and improvisation. I believe students should feel supported rather than judged—the goal is steady growth, not perfection, and improvisation, like meditation, must be nurtured rather than forced.

Throughout my career, I have collaborated with respected universities, conservatories, schools, and cultural institutions worldwide, presenting more than 500 workshops, masterclasses, and lecture-demonstrations. From 2012 to 2023, I taught at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, where I developed and taught a comprehensive curriculum in North Indian classical music. I was also a founding member and mentor at the Aashish Khan School of World Music.

For me, music education is both transmission and dialogue—a way to honour inherited knowledge while helping each learner develop a personal and lasting relationship with music. I remain open to collaborations with academic, cultural, and community institutions seeking meaningful engagement with North Indian classical music.

Teaching Philosophy

Raga as an Architectural Discipline of Resonance and Time

We explore the raga not merely as a scalar framework, but as a living, breathing structure. This approach cultivates a profound understanding of acoustic intent and breath discipline.
